     Employment Specialist


  1. Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience in developmental disabilities. Must be well-organized, demonstrate good computer aptitude and effective paperwork skills; be able to communicate effectively with people both orally and in writing, and demonstrate a sensitivity to the needs of other people. Must successfully complete all required training. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license, be insurable under agency insurance programs, and have a vehicle to safely transport individuals.


  1. Working Conditions

Work mainly outside of premises. Flexible schedule will vary, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Work effectively with minimal supervision.

  1. Duties, Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:


________ 1. Assure adequate job analysis by observing the job site, completing an analysis of job steps, and completing a written job plan.


_________ 2. Be knowledgeable of person(s) supported by conducting interviews; conducting the discovery process, observing the individual; talking with family and support staff.


_________3. Assisting the individual in writing a resume, mock interviewing, teaching positive work attitudes, job performance, and safety practices as well as filling out applications and going to job interviews.


_________ 4. Assure quality job match by conducting situational assessments and job compatibility analysis; orienting the individual to the job site; training for initial skill acquisition.

_________ 5. Provide personal assistance (e.g., support with eating, toileting, personal hygiene, etc.) to the individual in the workplace as necessary.


_________ 6. Develop and implement a fading plan which incorporates an appropriate mix of best practices for the individual to achieve fading goals strategies; including, systematic instruction utilizing task analysis to teach independence, high or low tech assistive technology, and effective engagement of natural supports.


_________ 7. Provide follow along services by conducting periodic on-site visits; collecting employer evaluations; completing progress reports; communicating with family and other support staff; retraining job skills.


_________ 8. Manage data by recording support hours; completing forms and reports as required by the agency and funding sources; tracking pay and benefits.


_________ 9. Assure working knowledge of the employment process, including related paperwork by working directly with the Employment Specialist and Employment team to complete or help facilitate any Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), ECF Choices, DIDD-related tasks; completing ongoing training for Supported Employment practices and approaches to support, including Job Coach Training, consultation meetings, other required VR meetings, DIDD, and TennCare/MCO-endorsed training sessions, workshops, and conferences.


_________ 10. Assure communication with all team members and other relevant agency staff, representatives of people supported (including families, conservators, advocates, support coordinators, etc.) and regulatory officials by establishing and maintaining open relationships; attending any other meetings related to persons supported as requested.


_________ 11. Maintain a professional work place appearance and presentation at all times, effectively representing the agency within the business community.


_________ 12. Assure the rights of people supported by actively recognizing and promoting the protection of those rights at all times; ensuring that people are supported in a manner which enhances their dignity and respect; ensuring all employment-related activities are conducted in a positive environment that is conducive to the growth and development of people supported.


_________ 13. Assure confidentiality of all privileged information and records concerning persons supported their families, team members, or other agency staff, as well as any additional information concerning the agency, its staff, clientele, or operations which may be considered to be of a confidential nature.
